B.Pharm Third Year Syllabus
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) is a four-year, eight-semester degree. PCI has mandated a revised NEP 2020-aligned syllabus for all approved institutions from the 2026-27 session. Alongside the classical pharmacy subjects, it introduces computing, data science and AI throughout the programme — Python, machine learning, data analytics and AI applications are now core courses.
Semester V — theory subjects
Biomedicinal Chemistry
Chemistry and mechanism of biologically active molecules; drug metabolism; the molecular basis of drug action.
Industrial Pharmacognosy
Large-scale production, processing and standardization of natural drugs; industrial applications of plant products; screening and quality control.
Innovation and Startup Ecosystem
NEP newEntrepreneurship and innovation; developing and validating a business idea; startup funding and the ecosystem; intellectual property and commercialisation for pharmacy graduates.
Pharmaceutical Dosage Form II
Formulation and evaluation of semisolid, sterile (parenteral, ophthalmic) and controlled-release dosage forms.
Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP); quality control and quality management; documentation, validation and regulatory compliance.
Systemic Pharmacology II
Pharmacology of drugs acting on the respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine and reproductive systems; chemotherapy and autacoids.
Semester VI — theory subjects
Advanced Pharmacognosy
Advanced study of natural products; marine and microbial drugs; herbal cosmetics; standardization and modern analytical techniques for phytopharmaceuticals.
Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics
Drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME); pharmacokinetic parameters and models; bioavailability and bioequivalence.
Intellectual Property Rights
Patents, trademarks, copyrights and designs; IPR in the pharmaceutical industry; filing and protection of pharmaceutical innovations.

Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence
Drug laws and regulations — the Pharmacy Act, Drugs & Cosmetics Act and NDPS Act; professional ethics and regulatory bodies.
AI Applications in Pharmaceutical Sciences
NEP newArtificial intelligence in drug discovery, formulation and manufacturing; predictive modelling; AI tools and their real-world pharmaceutical applications.
Plus: Elective courses (AEC/SEC/VAC) and a mandatory Internship. Each theory course has a paired practical.
What's new in NEP 2020: the revised B.Pharm curriculum weaves computing and data science through the whole degree — Python programming, applied data analytics, machine learning and AI applications are now core subjects alongside the classical pharmaceutical sciences.
