Unit 1 · Introduction to Pharmacy Practice 8 hrs
The definition, scope and evolution of pharmacy practice; the tiers of the healthcare system from primary health centres through to medical colleges; and the role of the pharmacist at each level of care.
Unit 2 · Hospital and its Organization 10 hrs
The classification of hospitals and the organizational structure of a hospital; hospital committees and their functions; and the place of the pharmacy within the hospital's organization.
Unit 3 · Hospital Pharmacy and its Organization 9 hrs
The definition and organizational structure of the hospital pharmacy; its location, layout and staffing; drug distribution systems including unit-dose and ward-stock methods; and hospital formulary and drug-information services.
Unit 4 · Community Pharmacy 9 hrs
The organization and management of a community pharmacy; prescription handling and dispensing practice; over-the-counter medication and responsible self-medication; patient counselling and medication-adherence support; and inventory and business management.
Unit 5 · Clinical Pharmacy Services 9 hrs
Ward-round participation and medication review; therapeutic drug monitoring; the identification and management of drug-related problems; patient medication history and drug-interaction screening; and pharmaceutical care planning and documentation.
