Unit 1 · Classification and Dosage Forms of Cosmetics 6 hrs

Cosmetics and cosmeceuticals and their classification — products for skin care, hair care, oral care, foot care and body cavities, together with decorative and cleansing cosmetics, perfumes and fragrances; the types of dosage form used for cosmetics; and the excipients commonly employed in them.

Unit 2 · Skin Cosmetics and Soaps 6 hrs

Common skin problems — dry skin, oily skin, pimples and acne, pigmentation, prickly heat and sunburn — and the general composition, method of preparation, packing and evaluation of the corresponding skin cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, including herbal preparations; the types of soaps and syndet bars and their preparation and evaluation; and an introduction to perfumes and toiletries.

Unit 3 · Hair Cosmetics and Cosmeceuticals 6 hrs

Common hair problems and the cosmetics addressing them; the types of shampoo, their general composition, preparation, packing and evaluation; and an introduction to hair oils, hair serums, conditioners, hair colours, depilatories and shaving products, together with herbal hair-care products.

Unit 4 · Oral, Nail, Eye and Body Cosmetics 6 hrs

Problems of the oral cavity and the oral cosmetics and cosmeceuticals addressing them — the general composition, preparation, packing and evaluation of mouthwash and toothpaste, including herbal oral care; and cosmetics for nails, eyes, body odour, lip care and cleansing, together with intimate-hygiene products.

Unit 5 · Regulation of Cosmetics 6 hrs

The role of the regulatory authorities governing cosmetics and cosmeceuticals — CDSCO and the US FDA; the Cosmetics Rules 2020; and the role of the Bureau of Indian Standards in cosmetic quality and labelling.
