Course contents — unit by unit

Unit 1 · Determinants and Matrices

Value of determinants up to third order; consistency of equations; Cramer's rule (two variables); algebra of matrices, types of matrices, transpose, adjoint and inverse of a matrix.

Unit 2 · Integral Calculus

Integration as the inverse operation of differentiation; integration by substitution and by parts; definite integration; application of integration to the area bounded by a curve and the axes.

Unit 3 · Co-ordinate Geometry

Equation of a straight line in various standard forms (general, two-point, slope, intercepts); angle between two lines; parallel and perpendicular lines; general equation of a circle and its characteristics; introduction to conic sections and the standard forms of the parabola, ellipse and hyperbola.

Unit 4 · Vector Algebra

Definition, notation and rectangular resolution of a vector; addition and subtraction of vectors; scalar and vector products of two vectors; applications of the vector product (area of a triangle and parallelogram, perpendicular unit vector); simple problems related to work.

Unit 5 · Differential Equations

Order and degree of a differential equation; general and particular solution of a first-order, first-degree differential equation by the variable-separation method.
