Unit 1 · Drugs Acting on the Peripheral Nervous System 10 hrs
The pharmacology of drugs acting on the peripheral nervous system — cholinergic and anticholinergic agents, adrenergic and antiadrenergic agents, neuromuscular blockers and local anaesthetics — with their mechanisms of action, adverse effects and therapeutic uses.
Unit 2 · Drugs Acting on the Cardiovascular System 10 hrs
The pharmacology of antihypertensives, antianginal and antiarrhythmic agents, drugs used in heart failure and antihyperlipidaemic agents — with their classification, mechanisms of action, adverse effects and therapeutic uses.
Unit 3 · Drugs Acting on Blood and the Kidney 10 hrs
Haematinics, anticoagulants, antiplatelet and fibrinolytic agents and plasma expanders; and diuretics and antidiuretics — with their mechanisms, adverse effects and therapeutic applications.
Unit 4 · Autacoids and Related Drugs 9 hrs
The pharmacology of histamine and antihistamines, 5-HT and its antagonists, prostaglandins and leukotrienes; and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and drugs used in gout.
Unit 5 · Anti-inflammatory and Antirheumatic Agents 6 hrs
Disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and immunosuppressants; and the mechanism of action, adverse effects and therapeutic uses of the important anti-inflammatory and antirheumatic agents.
