Course contents — unit by unit · PCI NEP 2020 BP402T
Unit 1 · Fundamentals of Medicinal Chemistry 7 hrs
The development of drug classes — chemical classification, structure and uses; structure–activity relationships (SAR); physicochemical properties and drug action; and the concepts of chelation, bioisosterism and protein binding.
Unit 2 · Drugs Acting on the Autonomic Nervous System 15 hrs
The chemistry, classification, SAR and synthesis of adrenergic and cholinergic agents — including epinephrine, phenylephrine, dopamine, methyldopa, clonidine, dobutamine, isoproterenol, terbutaline, salbutamol, naphazoline, oxymetazoline and xylometazoline — together with their therapeutic uses.
Unit 3 · Cholinergic and Anticholinergic Agents 9 hrs
The chemistry, SAR and synthesis of cholinergic agonists and cholinesterase inhibitors — including neostigmine, pyridostigmine, tacrine hydrochloride and ambenonium chloride — and of anticholinergic and antispasmodic agents.
Unit 4 · Cardiovascular Agents 6 hrs
The chemistry, classification and SAR of antianginal, antiarrhythmic and antihypertensive agents — including the calcium-channel blockers diltiazem, nifedipine, amlodipine and felodipine — and of vasodilators.
Unit 5 · Diuretics and Related Agents 8 hrs
The chemistry, classification, SAR and synthesis of diuretic agents — including chlorothiazide, hydrochlorothiazide and hydroflumethiazide — together with carbonic-anhydrase inhibitors, loop diuretics and potassium-sparing agents.
