Unit 1 · Plant Tissue Culture and Standardized Extracts 10 hrs
Plant tissue culture as an alternative source of medicine; an introduction to biomanufacturing; and the optimization and production of standardized extracts of medicinal plants, including strategies for preparing extracts of a desired quality.
Unit 2 · Quality Control of Herbal Raw Material 10 hrs
Standardization parameters for crude drugs; TLC fingerprinting of representative drugs such as Shatavari, Licorice, Neem and Haritaki; and the analytical approaches used to establish the identity, purity and strength of herbal raw material.
Unit 3 · Herbal Formulations, Excipients and Cosmetics 7 hrs
Herbal formulations and the excipients used in them; and herbal agents in skincare, hair care and oral-hygiene products, together with their formulation and evaluation.
Unit 4 · DNA Fingerprinting and Authentication 10 hrs
Molecular markers in the quality control of herbal drugs — including rbcL, matK and SCAR markers; DNA barcoding and fingerprinting for species authentication; and their role in detecting adulteration.
Unit 5 · Herbal Drug Safety, Interactions and Regulation 8 hrs
Herb–drug interactions, intolerance and toxicity; pharmacovigilance of herbal medicines; and the regulatory framework governing herbal products, including AYUSH requirements and quality guidelines.
