Unit 1 · Pharmaceutical Analysis, Errors & Impurities 7 hrs

Techniques of analysis and methods of expressing the strength of solutions; primary and secondary standards; sources and types of errors and their minimization, accuracy, precision and significant figures; and impurities in pharmaceuticals with limit tests for chloride, sulphate, iron, arsenic, lead and heavy metals.

Unit 2 · Acid–Base Chemistry, Buffers & Electrolytes 8 hrs

Acids, bases and buffers, the pH scale and buffer equation; isotonicity in IV fluids and ophthalmic solutions; major physiological electrolytes and replacement therapy (sodium chloride, potassium chloride, ORS); and acid–base titrations with the preparation and standardization of titrants.

Unit 3 · Non-aqueous, Precipitation & Complexometric Titrations 14 hrs

Non-aqueous titrations and the estimation of weakly acidic and basic substances; precipitation titrations and gravimetry (Mohr's, Volhard's and Fajans methods); and complexometric titrations with metal-ion indicators and the standardization of disodium EDTA.

Unit 4 · Redox Titrations, GI Agents & Radiopharmaceuticals 10 hrs

Redox titrations (permanganometry, cerimetry, iodimetry, iodometry); gastrointestinal agents — acidifiers, antacids and antimicrobials; and radiopharmaceuticals — radioactivity, applications of radioisotopes (I-131, Tc-99m, Co-60, P-32) and their safe handling.

Unit 5 · Miscellaneous Inorganic Compounds 6 hrs

Expectorants (potassium iodide, ammonium chloride), emetics, haematinics (ferrous sulphate, ferrous gluconate), and poisons and antidotes.
